Texas A&M Iron Spikes is a student led organization sponsored by the athletic department promoting community service in the B/CS area, support of Texas A&M athletics and traditions, and social interaction between our members and members of other organizations. We were originally established in 2000 by a group of guys intent on supporting the A&M baseball team and providing community service to the area. Beginning, loosely based off the foundation laid by the UT Iron Spikes, we have since inception, exceeded the goals of the founders and expanded beyond the framework of our predecessors, while continuing to develop in a variety of ways. We pride ourselves on being a dynamic organization that is constantly being shaped and molded by our current and past members.
Firstly, we are a service organization with a focus in providing support and fundraising for the Brazos Valley Big Brothers and Big Sisters. We plan and host an annual softball tournament during the spring with all proceeds being donated to BBBS of the Brazos Valley. Apart from this we participate in a wide variety of service events in the community, including Big Event, Replant, Kyle Field Clean-Up, and more.
Providing a close-knit organization and getting to know each other on a very personal basis is our main social priority and is the reason we maintain a cap of 61 members. We strongly encourage bonds and friendship among our members, while involving ourselves in as many social and recreational events as we possibly can.
Since 2000 we have owned a spot in Aggie Alley and support the baseball team now by dragging the field during home games. In addition to baseball, we support all other A&M sports teams, and participate in a variety of recreational sports on campus.
One of our greatest strengths as an organization is an ability to not take ourselves too seriously. We are listed as a social, service, and spirit organization, which really translates into us being a laid back group of sports-enthusiasts, who strive to improve ourselves by being involved in many activities on campus. We are an established, but growing organization significantly impacted by our dynamic members.
